Let me tell you a story to tell...
You are at the fun age of... 17. You are a senior in high school, having a blast, enjoying life. You have no worries. Your mom wakes you up every morning about 7am to get ready for school. She drives you to school (maybe letting you drive while she secretly digs holes in the seat because she is really secretly nervous :) The house smells almost edible when you walk through the door because the home cooked meal is almost done cooking. On the weekends you go on different outings. Sometimes to hang out with family, sometimes to go shopping. You are having a great weekend with your mom. Doing what moms and daughters do best... GOSSIP!! :)
Well okay maybe you do have a some worries. Your worries are: applying to every college, getting a car, learning how to drive, getting an A on the government test, scoring a goal at the soccer game, and asking your boyfriend to the Sadie's Hawkins dance. There is nothing wrong with these worries. They are all perfectly good worries for a 17 year old. After all, there should not be anything else you should have to worry about at age 17.
Then one day you and your mom come home after school. The dinner is on the stove cooking, smelling absolutely delicious!! Next thing you know there is a knock on the door. There are 3 armed police (ICE to be exact) waiting patiently for you to answer the door. When you look out you notice there is a 4th armed police officer standing standing at the end of the drive way. What could they be there for? You did not call them. There was no emergency in your house. Then they ask you a question about your mom. Show you a picture of your mom and tell you "your mom is a bad person and is in a lot of trouble." They tell you that they are going to take your mom away. But what has your mom done?
They did that. They took your mom away. They dropped her off at the Mexico boarder at 3am. No money. No food. No answers. With no one. They took your mom from you.
Now you sit at home, talk to your mom on the phone. Tell her you love her and tell her good bye every other night. Your life is different. Your life has been crushed. This is the most important year of your life and your world has been flipped upside down. You don't care about graduation or your 18th birthday that is shortly coming up. You are sad, you are angry.
Your mom is gone. Not dead. GONE! She will not see you graduate. She will not be there when you turn 18. She will not be there for the best part of your life. You ask yourself "why?" Why was your mom taken from your arms during the most important time in your life. Why did they come to your house? Why did they cuff your mom right in front of you? Why did they not let you sit with your mom? Why did they treat your mom like she committed the worst crime possible? Why did they lie to you and say you could come see your mom the next day when they really knew they were taking her straight to the boarder? Why? Why? Why?
